Fuel pump
The fuel pump supplies the engine with petrol or diesel via an injection pump or directly via the injectors. The fuel pump consists of an electric motor that drives two rotors. By turning these rotors, fuel is sucked out of the tank.
Therefore, the pump is integrated in a submerged module in the tank. The fuel is drawn into an inlet line through a pre-filter and is pumped into the fuel system by the pump. The module consists of an electric motor, a rotor pump, a pulse damper and a pressure relief valve to prevent damage from overpressure. The pump operates at a constant pressure of usually 2 to 3 bar to supply the engine with an optimum amount of fuel without interruptions and to prevent air from entering the fuel system. In diesel engines, the fuel pump acts as a booster pump to ensure that sufficient fuel is supplied to the high-pressure fuel pump.
